Nairobi Placemakingweek

In 2016 we extended the ”Open Street project” to a street in downtown Nairobi. During the seven days ”Placemakingweek Nairobi”, initiated by UN-Habitat and Nairobi City County, we preformed activities including painting of the street, football tournaments, rollerskating, temporary furniture, open air concerts, graffiti and talking walls.

Placemakingweek Nairobi is dedicated to celebrate Public Spaces in Kenya and specifically Nairobi. Urban open spaces are the fronts for interaction between man, land and built form. This event will bring together placemakers and users for discussion on how well public spaces can and will be sustained within the framework of the New Urban Agenda..

Quality public spaces are excellent entry point to improve the standard of urban life for all citizens, the week is therefore anchored within the New Urban Agenda and moving from theory and putting it into practice for sustainable development.
